Sheep and goats are shorn 2 times a year. Shearing is necessary and benefits, rather than hurts the animal. Angora goats lose their hair just as we do. At certain times they lose more than others and are helped a little by the goat's owner using a brush or pulling a little on the hair to remove small portions of it. Animals, like sheep and goats that have beautiful hair (fleece) are given a haircut (sheared) and this is no different than you going to the beauty shop to get your hair cut. It is a necessary process because the hair (fleece) would get knotted and tangled and actually begin to hurt the animal or it would fall out.

Commercial breeding of these animals had bred much of their beautiful natural color out. It takes 2 generations to breed the black color back into the fleece.

Interested in purchasing a fleece of your own for spinning, or quilting. Call or stop by to pick out the fleece of your choice or select an animal to be sheared and we will do the rest. Shearing dates to be announced.
